Weather InstructionsTEAK CARE AND MAINTENANCETeak furniture does not require any special maintenance routine or any additional protection apart from occasional cleaning. Left to weather naturally, teak will turn from a golden-brown colour to a light silvery grey as the pigments in the surface layer of the wood begin to fade away. This process will take from 6 months to 2 years, depending on the location and weather circumstances. We do not apply any ‘finishes’ to our teak. All of our teak furniture is untreated. Teak requires very little maintenance apart from the occasional scrub. We recommend that you allow your teak furniture to weather naturally. Simply clean the teak thoroughly with either water and a mild detergent solution (see instructions below) or a Teak Cleaner once or twice a year. Teak furniture may also benefit from an occasional light sanding to remove any raised grain and restore a smooth finish to the surface. Under no circumstances should a power washer be used to clean teak as this will erode the soft surface and leave it rough to the touch. Golden Care Teak Shield can also be applied over the weathered surface to help repel moisture and to protect the teak from staining from foods and drinks. Apply the Teak Shield once a year to give the best results. Treat the table tops twice a year (in April and October) to help protect these more exposed hori-zontal surfaces during the winter months. We do not recommend the use of teak oil or any other wood oil on teak that is to be used outdoors. Teak is already a naturally ‘oily’ wood and the addition of further oil does not add any additional protection. However, should you wish your teak to keep looking the same as it does when it is fresh out of the box, it can be sealed when new with Golden Care Teak Protector. This will help to maintain the natural, brown colour of fresh teak, without darkening the teak too much. Golden Care Teak Shield can then be added on top of the sealer to help repel moisture and to prevent stains. How to maintain your teak furnitureHow to clean your teak furniture in an eco-friendly way Tools you will need• A brush with medium to soft bristles • Water supply (garden hose works best)• Natural soft soap and soda crystals (optional)• Gloves (optional)Fill a bucket with warm water and add natural soft soap. Optional: add 6 tablespoons of soda crystals for intensive cleaning.Wet the furniture well with the cleaning solution from the bucket with a brush. Let it soak for about 5-10 minutes. Then scrub or wipe your table with a clean brush and rinse the furniture again with clean water. When the furniture is completely dry, you can slightly sand it with fine sandpaper to smoothen the surface
